Hold onto your hair gel and spray tans, the budget Infiniti G25 is gone. No longer will you be able to primp your poofs and blowouts in the mirror of an Infiniti for around $30,000. We know what you’re thinking.
In case you’re confused, the Infiniti G, while a great car, is also a very popular car for mildly successful (or very successful at having wealthy parents) young folks who consider their Italian heritage a major personality trait and have very dark tans despite never going to the beach. You might have seen a TV show on MTV that focused on these folks and assumed it was fictional, but as someone who’s spent a lot of time in Italian New England neighborhoods, let me assure you, it isn’t.
In addition to dropping the G25, Infiniti will no longer sell the base model G37. The G37 line will now be populated by the G37 Journey, G37 x AWD and G37 Sport 6MT. Journey, x AWD and 6MT trims are available in Sedan and Coupe styles while the Convertible only comes with x AWD and Journey trims, according to Autoweek.
Infiniti is dropping their $33,000 luxury car just as Acura adds the ILX at $25,000, basically ceding the battle for buyers only looking for a luxury badge to their Japanese rival. Entry into the Infiniti G is now in the $40,000 range for both Sedan and Coupe models.
Some exciting news to balance the sadness of Infiniti’s four-cylinder experiment gone wrong: The G37 will now have IPL-G versions available for the Coupe and Convertible with an extra 18 horsepower for 343 in IPL-G Convertible models and 348-hp in IPL-G Coupes.
