The 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth has already sold out. Only a little over a month after the car hit dealerships, Fiat says that deposits are no longer being accepted for 2012 models, and that anyone willing to wait can now reserve a 2013 500 Abarth.
Fiat initially planned to only sell around 1,000 Abarth models, but when the company had enough cash deposits to sell out as the first cars arrived at dealerships, the Toluca, Mexico plant upped production to its maximum capacity of 3,000 units per year.
The Fiat 500 Abarth has a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 160-hp and 170 lb-ft of torque, enough to propel the tiny car 0-60 in 6.8 seconds according to Motor Trend. With a starting price of $22,000, the Abarth is $2,000 less than a Mini Cooper S, no wonder it has been popular in its rookie year.
One customer put a deposit down in March and found out recently that production on 2012 models was spoken for, so that deposit would be applied to a 2013 model, according to The Detroit News.
Don’t despair. No new orders are being taken on the 2012 Abarth, but some dealerships may still have unsold 2012s available. Just don’t expect any deals on them.
