Aerodynamics play a big part in a vehicle’s fuel economy. Tricks like moon disks and even custom bodywork are popular in hypermiling communities dedicated to squeezing out every last MPG from a car. Dodge has released a statement saying that the Aero package on the 2013 Dodge Dart will help the car get 41-mpg on the highway.
Dodge hasn’t released any specifications on the Aero Package’s additions to the 2013 Dart but Allpar claims that they have an inside scoop on the specs. The Dart Aero will use lower rolling resistance tires, a lower curb weight, better aerodynamics (including a smoother underside). Like all 2013 Dodge Darts, the Aero will use a front grill shutter system that blocks off the air intake to the front grill when cooling isn’t needed as much (low rpm highway cruising for example) and gives the car a three to five percent better coefficient of drag.
Dodge hasn’t announced what the price will be for the 2013 Dodge Dart Aero, but with a 41-mpg rating and the same 160-hp, 184 lb.-ft torque engine as the standard Dart, it might be the most fun car to hit the magical 40-mpg mark. Hopefully the aero tricks don’t add a lot to the price tag.
