The auto industry is concerned with more than just what vehicles sell the most. That’s obviously one of the most important gauges of a model’s worth to the company that builds it, along with the profit margin, but another very important piece of information is how long a model sits on dealer lots before selling. Dealers strive to sell a car as soon as possible – a car sitting on the lot unsold is just costing the dealership money. Also a fast selling car creates a sense of scarcity for other shoppers who might be considering the car. Right now the average time a car sits on a lot is 53 days.
Edmunds has compiled a list of the 20 cars that sell the quickest and, unsurprisingly, the list is dominated by cars that are either new (the Toyota Prius C, Range Rover Evoque and Mazda CX-5) or substantially redesigned for this year. Surprising as it might be for some people, a lot of car buyers are impulsive and want the newest one they can get.
Here is the list of the fastest selling cars right now:
As the title says, you won’t be getting any impressive discounts on these cars. Of the top five, only the Mazda CX-5 and Hyundai Elantra come with what could be described as an incentive, and neither is a particularly great deal. The CX-5 comes with a 0.9% financing deal for 36 months. The Elantra also comes with a low interest incentive, but it isn’t anything special. In addition to not having factory incentives, vehicles that move quickly off dealer lots probably won’t come with any discounts from those dealers. If there’s another customer headed through the door once you leave that will pay full price, the dealer doesn’t have much reason to give you a break.
