The 2013 Scion FR-S will start at $24,200 when it goes on sale this summer. The $24,200 base price is for a manual transmission model. An automatic will start at $25,300. The 2013 Scion FR-S, which is the same car as the 2013 Subaru BR-Z, will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 200-hp. A limited slip differential is standard.
The Scion will be priced to undercut the 2012 MX-5 Miata, which starts at $23,470, and while the 200-hp Scion beats the 167-hp Miata in power, it doesn’t have a convertible top, so it probably won’t steal many sales. The Scion FR-S’ real competition is the $24,250 Hyundai Genesis and, to a lesser extent, the $22,200 Ford Mustang V6. Of course with that competition, the FR-S is completely outgunned, the Genesis Coupe has a 274-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine and the Mustang V6 has 305-hp.
