Lojack has released a list of the most stolen and recovered cars of 2011. The list is not representative of the actual rates that cars were stolen, but of how many were stolen and recovered using Lojack. I acknowledge that it’s not an independent list, and is a little bit on the advertisement side, but it’s still interesting.
The most stolen and recovered vehicle models for 2011:
- Honda Accord
- Toyota Camry
- Honda Civic
- Acura Integra
- Toyota Corolla
- Nissan Altima
- Nissan Maxima
- Cadillac Escalade
- Chevrolet Tahoe
10. Ford F-250
All very popular cars, and almost identical to the 2010 list, eight of the ten cars were within two places of the 2010 rankings. It is strange that the F-250, the only vehicle on the top ten list that was not in last year’s, was stolen and recovered more than the much more popular F-150. It’s possible that the higher purchase price leads more buyers to protect their 3/4 ton trucks with the vehicle location system.
Lojack also keeps track of the most stolen and recovered new vehicles. For the 2011 model year, here is the top five:
- Toyota Camry
- Mercedes-Benz C300
- Ford F-350
- Honda Civic
- Toyota Corolla
The states with the most recovered vehicles doesn’t hold any surprises, in fact I’d bet that you can name the top four off the top of your head.
- California
- Texas
- Florida
- New York
- New Jersey
- Massachusetts
- Maryland
- Arizona
- Georgia
- Nevada
