The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG the top-of-the-line Mercedes coupe (exempting the supercar SLS AMG from the conversation), which makes it very close to the pinnacle of the theoretical automotive line. The new roadster version of the SL63 AMG will add just a little bit of height to Mercedes’ line. With its ability to allow the driver to be seen by everyone while cruising to a fancy dinner in the baddest Benz, the SL63 AMG gives you a whole extra level of opulence over the hard top model.
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG will use the same 5.5-liter V8 engine fitted with twin turbochargers as the previous generation. The twin-turbo V8 in the SL63 AMG will have 529-horsepower, the same as in previous years. What the SL63 won’t have is 242 of the old car’s lbs. Mercedes has used magnesium and aluminum in place of steel to save almost 250 lbs off the Roadster’s weight.
Mercedes revealed the SL63 AMG along with the F1 car that the Mercedes AMG team (formerly known as Mercedes GP) will run in the 2012 F1 season. The 2012 F1 car will use the same FO108Z 2.4-liter eight cylinder engine as last year’s car, according to Autoblog. A new six-cylinder turbocharged engine is in the works for all F1 cars, so development on the eight-cylinder will stop.
