Mitsubishi has revealed the new 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander, giving us a sneak peak at the company’s small SUV a month ahead of the official unveiling next month at the Geneva Motor Show. In addition to a redesigned exterior, the Outlander will be available as a plug-in hybrid that could get up to 140-mpg.
The 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander will be powered by an updated version of the current generation Outlander Sport’s 2.0-liter four cylinder engine, according to Autocar. Fuel economy is a priority with carmakers now, so expect the 2013 Outlander to improve on the current generation 25-mpg city, 31-mpg highway two wheel-drive rating and 23-city, 28-highway all wheel -drive gas mileage.
The highlight of the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander will be the plug-in hybrid model. The 2013 Outlander Hybrid will be powered by an all-wheel drive system that uses two electric motors, one for the front axle and one for the rear, in addition to the 2.0-liter gasoline powerplant. The plug-in 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander will be able to travel up to 30 miles on electric power.
