Scion is offering 86 of the upcoming 2012 Scion FR-S sports cars ahead of schedule. Starting tomorrow, Thursday January 12 at 12 pm eastern, potential customers can fill out a form on Scion’s specially built website, http://www.scionfirst86.com, and fill out a form requesting their desired color and transmission (somehow I doubt many automatic transmissions will be selected by the rabid fans looking to get the car as soon as possible). The application will be open for eight hours and six minutes.
The lucky 86 buyers (a reference to the car’s spiritual successor, the Corolla AE86 from the 1980s that turned the sports car world on its head) will be notified that they’ve been selected, and will need to take a $500 deposit to a Toyota dealership within 24 hours.
Scion hasn’t officially announced the pricing on the FR-S yet, but expect it to be at least in line with the VW GTI’s $23,000 starting price. When the actual launch date gets closer Scion will reveal pricing. Buyers will have a chance to inspect their new FR-S when it is delivered to the dealership, and can back out of the deal at any point to have their $500 deposit returned.
