Jeep will offer a diesel engine in the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Jeep fans have been clamoring for a diesel powered model for years, though most would prefer an off road oil burner like the Wrangler. The 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee will have more than 400 lb-ft of torque, giving it the power to overcome just about any obstacle you’ll encounter.
Jeep unveiled the 2013 Grand Cherokee Diesel at the 2011 Geneva motor show, but at the time said it would not be available in the United States. Chrysler hasn’t officially announced the engine that will come in the Grand Cherokee Diesel, but it’s a good bet that the 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel in the European Grand Cherokee will be ported over. The engine makes 241-hp and 406 lb-ft of torque and is rated at 28-mpg in the European combined cycle
Jeep is hiring 1,100 more people for its Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit to accommodate the extra work involved in manufacturing the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
