Consumer Reports has released its list of the best values in new cars for 2012. The Honda Fit has topped the list again this year, thanks to its reliability more than its initial price, since Consumer Reports tries to predict the actual cost to own a car rather than just the retail price.
The 2012 Honda Fit is the best value overall this year, and also the best buy in the small car category. The best luxury sedan is the 2012 Lexus ES350. The 2012 Toyota RAV4 is the best small SUV value this year
Consumer Reports pointed out that small cars are the best values, with the lowest ranking one, the Chevrolet Cruze, still close to average. Larger vehicles don’t do well in Consumer Reports’ rankings, probably due to fuel economy ratings, which isn’t totally fair, since some buyers require larger vehicles.
Consumer Reports has also posted the worst values for each category. The 2012 Chevy Cruze lost the small category. The 2012 Jaguar XJL is the worst luxury car value. For small SUVs, the 2012 Jeep Liberty ranked lowest.
