Ford is completely redesigning the Escape for the 2013 model year and embracing the CUV segment much more than in the past. Unlike the outgoing Escape, which is styled like a traditional SUV and marketed as a go-anywhere vehicle capable of doing daily duties, the 2013 Ford Escape will be 100% crossover – for buyers that have no intention of driving deep into the woods for adventure but like the view of the road and cargo capacity of an SUV.
The 2013 Ford Escape will be available with two different EcoBoost engines, a 1.6-liter four-cylinder that will make its American debut in the Escape or the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that is currently found in the Ford Explorer. The 2.0-liter Ecoboost makes 240-hp and 270 lb-ft of torque in the Explorer, so expect similar numbers in the 2013 Ford Escape. Base model Escapes will be available with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine currently available in the Escape.
Ford says that the 2013 Escape will get up to 5-mpg more than the current model, which would mean 33-mpg if they are referring to the 28-mpg in the four-cylinder.
The 2013 Ford Escape will come with a hands-free power liftgate that can be opened by kicking under the rear bumper when your hands are full. The automatic liftgate only works when the key fob is within range.
Ford will also be equipping the 2013 Escape with SYNC, MyFord Touch, automatic parallel parking assist and a blind spot notification system.
