The 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will be a 650-hp, 600 lb-ft of torque, 200-mph top speed 5.8-liter supercharged beast when it goes on sale next year. Designed to beat the 2012 Camaro ZL1, which has 580-hp, the 2013 Mustang Shelby GT500 will definitely overpower the Chevy, but time will only tell if it can outhandle it as well.
Ford has not announced pricing on the 2013 Mustang Shelby GT500 yet, but expect it to be competitive with the Camaro ZL1’s $54,995 starting price. Even if the Mustang comes in a little over the Camaro’s price, it will be one of the best bargain buys in the performance world. In terms of power, the only part of a sports car most owners will really put to use, the Mustang will have more than the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG (563-hp, $189,600) Audi R8 V10 (525-hp, $149,000) and even, just barely, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (638-hp, $111,525).
The 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is not just a super-powerful engine stuffed in a Mustang. The team at SVT has fitted the 2013 GT500 with electronically adjusting Bilstein dampers, Brembo Brakes, and optional Torsen limited-slip differential with the Performance Package.
