Hyundai has released two official pictures of the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe on its Korean language blog. The images show a completely new front end with styling clearly in the same vein as the Veloster, lending credence to the idea that the small hatchback will serve as the brand’s halo car even though it isn’t astronomically priced.
The 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe will receive a full makeover for the new generation, so don’t expect a mild refresher of the looks. The Genesis Coupe’s current, more traditional sports car wedge styling is replaced with the big-mouthed front end similar to the Veloster, the Nissan GT-R or the current crop of full-sized pickups. The front fog lights will also be LED accented and the rear taillights will be revised.
Hyundai USA has not released any information on the 2013 Genesis Coupe, but expect improved horsepower out of the 2.0-liter four cylinder turbocharged engine that currently makes 210-horsepower and the 3.8-liter V6 engine that currently makes 306-horsepower. Those horsepower numbers can’t compete with the other performance cars in the Genesis’ price range, including the 305-hp V6 Mustang with a $22,000 starting price, comparable with the four-cylinder Genesis, so Hyundai really needs to up its game if the Genesis is ever going to compete.
The 2013 Hyundai Genesis will be officially revealed in January at the Detroit Auto Show, according to Autoblog.
