If we haven’t said it before, the strategy for many of Ford’s new vehicles for 2012 boils down to one simple two-word phrase: fuel economy. One way that Ford is hoping to dominate the market for gas saving vehicles is with its new EcoBoost engine, which the auto maker is hoping will add to the attraction of many customers to its new 2012 Ford Escape, a competitive small SUV.
Nevermind that the new Ford Escape will be a paragon of Ford’s proprietary dashboard technology, with the now-familiar SYNC system for hands-free communication and much more, along with neatly installed audio and safety features like stability and traction control. The new 2012 model, according to an October 4 press release from Ford, is due to be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show, where Ford’s game plan will become evident to reviewers and anyone in the market for the most modern crossover vehicles. According to Ford’s latest news, the Ford Escape SUV for 2012 will feature a 1.6 liter patented EcoBoost engine that takes a multi-step approach to fuel economy. Turbocharging is just part of what this engine does to offer higher mpg to drivers. Direct injection is also part of the equation. Ford also mentions twin independent variable camshaft timing or Ti-VCT as another way to pare fuel use. All of this, say Ford staffers, will add up to even better fuel economy than what drivers get with the 2011 Escape, where the 2012 model is expected to have an edge over SUVs from other makers like Chevrolet, Honda and Toyota.
Along with the 1.6 liter block, Ford will also offer a 2 liter EcoBoost and a 2.5 liter four-cylinder for more power on the road on successive 2012 Escape trims. The patented EcoBoost technology is something that Ford is banking on to deliver what customers want and to capture more market share in the years ahead. It’s all part of a comprehensive plan to offer a variety of “high miles per gallon designs.” To this end, Ford has also unveiled its line of Transit Connect electric vans, an electric Ford Focus, and other alternative technology vehicles. Ford is also expected to debut something called a C-MAX hybrid in 2012, a vehicle that will get more mpg than the current Ford Escape hybrid model.
Look for the best from Ford as the new model year commences, and make sure to have all the information about sales, incentives and financing as Ford competes to attract more customers to its carefully designed product line.
