For fans of the biggest work trucks on the American market, there’s a new option that Chrysler is hoping will get the attention of those with the toughest jobs and heaviest hauling around the country. The new Ram 1500 Tradesman Heavy Duty model is expected to come out early in 2012, and in a recent press release, the auto maker is detailing what makes this truck special.
The comparison of the Ram 1500 Tradesman HD to competing trucks starts with towing and hauling capacity. The tradesman model offers a 3,100 lb. payload capacity and a maximum trailer rating of 11,500 lbs. To contrast, the Ford F-150 XL, Ford’s top work truck trim, offers 3,060 lbs. payload and 11,300 lbs. for trailer capacity. The Chevrolet Silverado LT offers 1,865 lbs. payload and a maximum trailer rating of 10,700 lbs.
In addition, the Ram 1500 Tradesman heavy-duty truck has a 17,500 lb. gross combined weight rating, and as Chrysler is claiming, the highest total weight capacity of all half-ton trucks offered today.
Other special features of this truck include special kinds of steel integrated into the frame, along with bulked up axles and custom wheel hubs. As for power, this truck runs on a 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine that will deliver nearly 400 horsepower to this truck. Braking and transmission design also complement the tougher design of this truck.
The Ram 1500 Tradesman HD truck is just the latest of various trims for this durable vehicle that Dodge has offered as an alternative to the popular Ford and Chevrolet work truck designs that dot the American roadway. With these trucks, Chrysler has established itself as a major player in the work truck market. When you’re shopping for any of these work trucks, make sure to check the best incentives and financing offers from Chrysler, Ford or Chevrolet as these big auto makers compete to snag customers.
