The Subaru Outback Sport will no longer be available after the 2011 model year. When the 2012 Impreza goes on sale, there will no longer be the option to buy the taller Outback Sport. Gone will be the Outback Sport’s two-toned body in place of a sportier looking XV (above) which will keep the Outback Sport’s (below) higher ride height.
Subaru is obviously trying to appeal to a more mainstream audience with the XV concept than the Outback Sport courted. The XV seems more like an alternative to the Nissan Juke and the Mini Countryman for people who you’d ask for the best Thai fusion place in town, rather than folks who know whether Birkenstocks are sold at LL Bean.
According to Motor Authority, the XV, which has only been seen in concept form at the Frankfurt Motor Show, will be sold in America, under another name, by 2013. The XV will have more features that differentiate it from the regular Impreza than the Outback Sport did, with unique wheels and a unique front end.
The 2011 Subaru Outback Sport starts at $19,995, $2,500 more than the standard Impreza’s $17,495 starting price and includes the higher suspension, heated seats, alloy wheels, roof racks with cross bars and fog lights.
