It’s not unusual to see a MINI vehicle on American roads. Many buyers, especially in a younger generation of drivers, are choosing these small Brit-styled vehicles from the BMW division that’s offering a range of trendy small cars to the public on the North American market. But some car reviewers are looking ahead to even more new MINI models on the horizon. One that’s getting its share of press, over a full year before production, is the 2013 Mini Paceman, a car that was revealed at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year. Some of those who have seen it call it “an elongated coupe model” and a take similar to the existing MINI Countryman. This two-doored MINI is expected to run on a 1.6 liter four-cylinder engine with a six speed manual transmission and offer all-wheel-drive, along with many of the best modern conveniences for the road. As for the fuel source for this future ride, it’s likely that MINI will stick with the traditional unleaded, although there are rumors of a MINI Cooper Hybrid in 2014.
Popular Mechanics magazine has included the 2013 MINI Paceman in its list of “twelve new cars worth waiting for,” anticipating a lot of horsepower in this small frame vehicle. But as PM points out, the company will have a lot of competition from makers like Subaru, as well as other desirable small car models like the Ford Fiesta. Other vehicles featured in the magazine’s list include the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, the 2012 FT-86 sports car (a Toyota/Subaru collaboration,) and the Chrysler 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 model, a high powered luxury Jeep with refreshed design, as well as the Hyundai Veloster, a fuel-efficient small car that’s been getting quite a bit of coverage from other reviewers.
For a play on any one of these vehicles, buyers will have to be patient; the MINI Paceman is expected to come on the market in April of 2012. Some of the other competing cars will be coming out later in the year. For the best deals on any of these brand-new vehicles, it’s a good idea to keep an ear to the ground and keep reading not only reviews, but surveys of the best new incentives and financing offers from manufacturers. Giveaways from auto companies are transient and often elusive, and a lot of research gets smart buyers better final transaction prices, as well as secure financing deals that save more money for all of the other costs of getting where you need to go.
