Some sports car enthusiasts are starting to talk about a 2013 Toyota Scion FR-S, a rear-wheel drive, high performance car to rival models like the Dodge Charger on the North American market. Details from showings at the 2011 New York Auto Show reveal that Toyota is working on a 2013 Scion FR-S Concept, a joint project with Subaru, that will turn heads and command the road. An Edmunds Inside Line video shows a prototype of the car navigating a track with ease and accelerating with the kind of speed you would expect out of a model name that stands for “front engine, rear wheel drive, sport.” According to Consumer Guide Automotive, the 2013 Scion FR-S will get a 2.0L 4-cylinder block with choice of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Customers expect items like ABS and traction control to come along with this powerful ride. Subaru’s imprint on the car can be seen in reports that the engine will feature a horizontally opposed design, something that’s become associated with the Subaru brand. As for the body design, items like the rear spoiler and chunk back end also bring to mind similar models from past years.
In addition to the power and utility of this car, which seems to be aimed at younger buyers, customers also expect that the 2013 FR-S will carry a range of upscale comfort options, from navigation and satellite radio to leather seating. Look for more on this vehicle throughout the year, including more details from Tokyo early in 2012. The FR-S Concept will complement a full lineup of products from Scion, including various trims offering improved mpg, new conveniences, and safety features for the road ahead. Be sure to check on current model pricing, financing details, and special offers and incentives from Scion when you’re browsing local lots for one of these high design vehicle choices.
