Honda’s not giving a whole lot of specs on next year’s round of SUVs from this popular Japanese brand, but they are promoting both the 2012 Pilot and 2012 CR-V vehicles as having improved fuel economy, along with more features. The 2012 Pilot will continue to offer seven passenger seats (plus one for the driver) and will show off more navigational tools and other interior upgrades. A July news release from Honda gives a preview of what buyers can expect for this redesigned Honda Pilot: the 2012 Pilot utilizes a boxy, jeep-like look, with a distinctly crisp, modern appearance.
The 2012 CR-V has a look all its own: from the wide-flared grille to its neat cabin roof contour and “eye-shaped” side window design, the 2012 CR-V will be something a lot of owners will want to show off in the driveway or garage, as well as the parking lot. The 2012 CR-V also offers new style changes and enhanced features for the model year. Those who want more information on next year’s incarnations of these top selling vehicles can sign up for automatic updates from the manufacturer: the Pilot is set to debut in September.
As for the fuel economy of the 2012 models, Honda says the official EPA numbers are not out yet. When it comes to fuel efficiency, the auto maker has a lot of competition: for example, Ford is competing hard with its current Ford Explorer model that offers 28 mpg on highway, according to the manufacturer. Honda says mpg for its current 2011 Pilot trims maxes at 23 mpg on highway, while the numbers for the 2011 CR-V show it’s keeping up with a maximum of 28 highway mpg.
It’s critical to keep an eye on how these makers are rolling out fuel-saving technology with every new model year. With so many buyers clamoring for fuel savings, this is going to be one of the details that shoppers look for first. If you’re in the market for a new SUV, make sure you get the latest on mpg and other specs, as well as local pricing, incentives and financing offers, by combining brand research with some good comprehensive market studies. The results could get you a lot more fuel efficiency and overall value when you go to the dealer’s lot.
