Fiat has announced via the company’s official twitter page that the 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth will be introduced to the United States at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2011 LA Auto Show will be open to the public on November 18 through November 27, so stop by if you want to see the new Fiat 500 Abarth.
Of course, being a high performance version of a car already available in the United States, seeing the 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth won’t give you the full experience of the car. The Abarth will need to be driven to really appreciate it. The 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth will be powered by a 175-hp turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine.
That 175 horsepower rating doesn’t sound like much when cars like the Ford Mustang have over 400, but the Fiat 500 is a very light car, a 2011 model tips the scales at just 2,363 lbs. With that same curb weight, a Fiat 500 Abarth would have a power to weight ratio of 13.5 lbs per horsepower. For comparison, the 2011 Mini Cooper S has 14.7 lbs per hp and the 2011 Scion Tc has 17 lbs per hp.
