Mercedes-Benz has revealed a convertible version of the 2012 SLS AMG. The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG convertible will lose the iconic gull wings of the SLS AMG hard top along with the roof, but will keep the rest of the coupe’s style and performance intact.
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG will be powered by a 6.3-liter V8 engine with 563-hp and 479 lb-ft of torque put to the ground through a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The SLS AMG Roadster will also have an optional Adaptive AMG Sport Suspension with electronically controlled damping and three suspension settings for comfort or sportiness.
Also available on the 2012 SLS AMG Roadster is a new multimedia system called AMG Performance Media, which was inspired, according to Mercedes, by motorsports and gives the driver access to lateral and linear acceleration, lap times and engine data. Of course hardcore racers will most likely choose the hard top gull wing SLS, but if you’re looking for a serious sports car that can double as a swanky cruiser, the drop top SLS will do that, and will weigh just 88 pounds more than the coupe.
The soft top of the 2012 SLS AMG Roadster will open or close in eleven seconds and will work at up to 31-mph.
