Ford’s F150 with the Ecoboost turbocharged V6 engine is selling well thanks to the truck’s good gas mileage and the recent rise in gas prices. Full sized trucks who typically prefer the tried-and true power of a V8 engine, are buying the turbocharged V6 in surprising numbers, Automotive news claims that the Ecoboost F150 account for 36 percent of all F150s sold, according to Autoblog.
The 2011 Ford F150 Ecoboost turbocharged V6 engine makes 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, which makes it competitive with the current V8 engines available in full sized pickups as far as power goes. Because it has the power on the same level as the V8 engines, the F150 Ecoboost can tow with them as well, up to 11,300 pounds. The Ecoboost V6 is rated at 16-mpg city 22-mpg on the highway, higher than most pickup truck buyers ever thought a truck could get.
The Ecoboost V6 costs between $750 and $1750 extra depending on the trim line, and gets 4-mpg better than the 6.2-liter V8 also available on the F150 with the same 11,300 pound towing capacity. Ford is currently offering the F150 with a $2,000 cash back incentive plus low interest rate, so the great deals currently available are probably helping the trucks sell despite high gas prices.
