The 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 will be officially revealed later this week, but pictures of the new super-Porsche were leaked on the Teamspeed forum and can be seen here. The 911 GT3 RS 4.0 will be a limited edition road legal 500-hp race car with rear-wheel drive and a six-speed stick shift.
The 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 will be the last ultra-high performance Porsche 911 from the 997 generation, which first went on sale in 2005. The 997 generation of the Porsche 911 will be replaced by the all new 991 generation soon, so the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 will probably be the last of the limited edition race cars built for the 997.
According to 0-60 Magazine, the 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 will use a 4.0-liter version of the traditional horizontally-opposed 911 engine. The GT3 RS 4.0 will have approximately 485-500 horsepower and will have a six-speed manual transmission. 0-60 Magazine expects more carbon fiber in the GT3 RS 4.0 than in the GT3 RS for weight savings, as well as styling changes to differentiate the RS4.0 from the standard GT3 RS.
The 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS costs $135,000 so expect the upgraded GT3 RS 4.0 to cost more than that, but not as much as the $245,000 Porsche 911 GT2. One Teamspeed forum member claims a retail price of $185,000 for the RS 4.0.
