Honda has announced that the 2012 Honda Civic Si will get a larger, more powerful 2.4-liter engine than the 2011 Si. The Honda Civic Si is the sporty trim level of Honda’s iconic small car and the larger, more powerful engine will add to the Si’s appeal. The 2012 Civic Si will also get a new six-speed transmission.
The new 2.4-liter engine will only increase the 2012 Civic Si’s horsepower by 3, up to 200, but the exciting part of the engine swap will be the torque increase. The new 2.4-liter 2012 Honda Civic Si will have 170 lb-ft of torque. The 2011 Honda Civic SI’s 2.0-liter engine makes 139- lb-ft of torque, so the new engine will increase torque by 31 lb-ft, which should make the Si even more fun to drive.
Honda says that the 2012 Civic Si will actually get better fuel economy with the more powerful engine. According to Autoweek, Honda expects the 2012 Civic Si to get 31-mpg highway, up 2-mpg from the current Si’s rating.
Honda is redesigning the entire Civic lineup for 2012, and one of the other highlights of the 2012 lineup will be the 2012 Civic HF, which Honda says will get 41-mpg highway with an automatic transmission.
