The 2011 Honda Odyssey minivan is one of the first vehicles to earn a five-star crash rating under the new NHTSA ratings system. The NHTSA introduced a new crash rating system for 2011 and the Odyssey is only the second vehicle to earn five-star ratings in every seating position for every crash test.
The only test that the 2011 Honda Odyssey did not get a five-star rating on was the rollover test. The Odyssey received a four-star rating on that test. Honda says that the four-star rollover rating is the highest a vehicle in the light-truck class can attain under the current testing methodology.
The NHTSA’s new 2011 tests are more in-depth than previous tests, so 2011 vehicle crash test ratings are not comparable to the crash test ratings on 2010 model year and older vehicles. One of the changes to the NHTSA crash test rating is the addition of an Overall Vehicle Score. The new Overall Vehicle Score combines the results of the frontal and side crash tests with the rollover-resistance test.
The 2011 Honda Odyssey is completely redesigned from last year and features safety equipment like Vehicle Stability Assist, three row curtain airbags, front airbags that have multiple settings to automatically provide the most appropriate cushioning and a front passenger-side airbag that can detect the occupant’s position and adjust accordingly.
