Toyota has announced a recall of 1.7 million vehicles for problems with the fuel system. Most of the recalled vehicles are not in the United States, but 245,000 Lexus vehicles have been recalled. Lexus GS and IS models have been recalled for an inspection of the fuel pressure sensors, which could have been installed improperly and could leak.
Lexus dealers will inspect the fuel pressure sensor to determine if it was not fastened tightly, according to Autoweek. If the sensor is not properly tightened, fuel can leak from between the sensor and a gasket. Lexus dealers will properly tighten the sensor on any vehicle recalled and replace the gasket if necessary.
The Lexus fuel pressure sensor recall affects the 2006-2007 Lexus GS300 and GS350, 2006-2009 Lexus IS250 and 2006-2008 Lexus IS350. Not all IS250 and IS350 models were sold with the faulty fuel pressure sensor, so make sure that your vehicle is affected before scheduling any maintenance.
Toyota also announced a recall of 1.34 million vehicles for faulty fuel check valves and pipes. Most of the vehicles affected by the Toyota fuel system recall are in Japan, but European models are also affected.
Toyota has struggled with recalls and quality issues recently, and has had to resort to heavy incentives to keep sales up. With the recalls continuing, buyers interested in Toyota incentives should be able to get great deals for at least a few more months.
