BMW has officially revealed the 1-Series M, which will be a higher-performance version of the already high-performance 135i. The BMW 1-Series M will have a 340-horsepower version of the 3.5-liter inline-six engine currently doing duty in the 135i.
BMW can’t use the M1 name for the new high performance M-Series. That name was taken by a supercar in the late 1970s, so BMW enthusiasts would complain. Don’t be fooled by the different naming scheme though. The new BMW 1-Series M is a true M car.
The BMW 1-Series M will have a more powerful engine, wider stance and lighter weight than the 135i. Altogether, the 1-Series M should be faster in every way than the standard 135i. The BMW 1-Series M will use a 340-hp, 3.5-liter twin turbocharged engine with 369 lb-ft of torque available for short times in overboost mode. The new 1-Series M will weight just 3,296 lbs and will only be available with a six-speed manual transmission.
BMW says that the 1-Series M will do 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds. Also worth noting is that BMW claims it did a lap of the famous Nurburgring in Germany in just eight minutes, twelve seconds, according to Jalopnik.
