The 2011 Ford Explorer has replaced the traditional body-on-frame, truck-like build for a unibody construction, making the legendary SUV a crossover for the 2011 model year. The 2011 Ford Explorer’s new unibody construction allows the SUV to weigh less than the outgoing model, as well as having more car-like road manners.
The new 2011 Ford Explorer competes with the Honda Pilot, Hyundai Veracruz and Dodge Durango in the large crossover SUV segment. The new Explorer gets 25-mpg highway with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, better than any other large SUV with three-row seating.
The 2011 Ford Explorer comes standard with a wealth of technology designed to make driving safer and more convenient. Standard on the new 2011 Explorer is Ford’s SYNC voice recognizing technology that allows the driver to control music, make calls, get directions and receive personalized news content without ever taking a hand off the wheel. Also available is the new MyFord Touch infotainment system that includes two customizable LCD displays in the dashboard and steering wheel controls for the navigation, music and phone. The new 2011 Ford Explorer is also available with a hands free parallel parking system, heated and cooled seats and the industry’s first ever inflatable rear seat belts that are designed to reduce injuries to small passengers.
The 2011 Ford Explorer is powered by a new 3.5-liter V6 engine with 290-hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. The new 2011 Explorer is rated at 17-mpg city and 25-mpg highway with front-wheel drive. The Explorer is rated to tow up to 5,000 lbs, and features like Trailer Sway Control and Hill Start Assist make towing with the Explorer easy and safe.
