GM has announced that the Buick brand will add a new model for 2012. The 2012 Buick Verano will be Buick’s smallest luxury car when it goes on sale for the 2012 model year. The Verano will slot below the Regal and will be Buick’s least expensive luxury car.
The 2012 Buick Verano will be a compact luxury car, but will include features competitive with those found on larger luxury vehicles. Buick says that the 2012 Verano’s extensive sound dampening will make it quieter than many large luxury cars. Buick also says that the 2012 Verano will have a cutting edge infotainment system to compete with those available on other luxury cars.
The 2012 Buick Verano will be available with a 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine that will get an estimated 31-mpg highway. Buick says that the 2.4-liter engine will bring the Verano to 60 miles per hour in eight seconds. The Verano will have an optional 2.0-liter turbocharged engine in the future.
There isn’t much competition for the 2012 Verano in the compact luxury segment. The Audi A3 wagon and BMW 1-Series coupe are both around the same size as the Verano, but neither are available in a traditional sedan body style.
Buick has not announced pricing for the 2012 Buick Verano, but expect it to come in below the 2011 Regal‘s $26,245 base price.
