The 2011 Ford F-150 has been recalled to fix a potential fire caused by faulty electrical wiring. Ford has issued a recall on 14,737 2011 F-150s, Lincoln MKXs and Ford Edges. A body-control module that is used by all three models can short out and possibly cause a fire.
Ford has informed the National Highway Safety Administration that the faulty modules that could cause fires in the 2011 Ford F-150, 2011 Ford Edge and 2011 Lincoln MKX were built during a six-day period by a third party supplier. The body-control module is designed to monitor vital systems in a vehicle such as coolant temperature and oil pressure, according to Autoweek.
Ford says that no fires have been reported due to the faulty control module, but owners of 2011 Ford F-150, Lincoln MKX and Ford Edge models should contact a local dealer to see if their vehicle is included in the fire recall. Ford will contact all owners of affected vehicles before January 10, but concerned owners can call 1-866-436-7332 to find out if they need to bring their truck or SUV in to a Ford dealer for a repair.
Just to be safe, you may want to park your new Ford outside rather than in the garage until you find out for sure if it’s affected by the recall.
