Ford has released a version of the Transit Connect designed for hauling people instead of tools. The Transit Connect is now available in a minivan form with seating for five and rear windows so that the three back seat passengers don’t feel like they’re riding in a cave. The 2011 Ford Transit Connect Premium Wagon starts at $23,895 and is on sale now.
The Transit Connect Premium Wagon will come with carpeted floors, flip-open side windows and privacy glass to make it a little bit more passenger-friendly than the commercial van, according to Edmunds Inside Line.
The 2011 Ford Transit Connect Premium Wagon is powered by the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as the commercial models that gets 21-mpg city and 26-mpg highway.
While the Transit Connect Premium Wagon is designed for passengers, it’s hardly a cozy place. The people carrier Transit Connect keeps the exposed metal of the workhorse models, so if you have small children, be prepared to face the consequences of a head bump if they misjudge their jumps from the back seats into the cargo area.
The Ford Transit connect will offer families who are more concerned with A-to-B transportation and cargo space than luxury a nice alternative to pricey minivans or SUVs. The Transit’s 26-mpg gas mileage rating and low starting price should make it a hit with frugal buyers.
