Oprah Winfrey revealed the silhouette of the new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle yesterday on her Ultimate Favorite Things giveaway show. Oprah gave away a new 2012 Beetle to every audience member, but only showed them an outline of what their new car will look like because VW has not yet officially revealed the Beetle’s new look.
The 2012 VW Beetle will have a lowered roof line and a stretched out look. Autoblog has published spy shots of what was believed to be the new Beetle being test driven, and the silhouette shown on the Oprah Winfrey show matches the look of that car.
Volkswagen says that the new 2012 Beetle will officially be revealed in the spring of 2011. Production will begin in the fall and Oprah’s audience will receive their cars at that time.
Volkswagen says that the 2012 Beetle, which will be the first real redesign of the New Beetle’s look since it debuted in 1998, will be more focused on sporty driving than the last generation. The 2012 VW Beetle will feature 19-inch wheels, a stiffer suspension and dual exhausts, all of which will make the car feel and look sportier. The 2012 Beetle will be available with VW’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is currently available in the GTI. The Beetle will also be available with Volkswagen’s TDI clean diesel engine, which gets 42-mpg on the highway in the 2011 VW Jetta TDI.
