With the new 2012 Ford Focus, Ford will become the only carmaker selling four cars that get more than 40-mpg in the United States. The new 2011 Ford Fiesta, the upcoming 2012 Ford Focus, as well as the Ford Fusion Hybrid and Lincoln MKZ Hybrid all get more than 40-mpg on the highway.
The 2011 Ford Fiesta is rated at 29-mpg city and 40-mpg highway. The Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ Hybrid twins are rated at 41-mpg city and 36 highway. Ford expects that the new 2012 Ford Focus will come with an EPA highway gas mileage rating of more than 40-mpg, according to Autoweek.
It wasn’t long ago that American car brands were the punchlines of jokes because of their attachment to antiquated technology that lead to their vehicles being outshined by foreign competitors from Japan and Germany. That’s changed dramatically in the last few years. Ford has dedicated itself to making exciting cars that get impressive gas mileage. The new Ford Mustang V6 has 300-hp and gets 31-mpg on the highway.
Ford has also developed a line of turbocharged engines that go by the Ecoboost name, which will go on sale soon in the Ford F-150, Explorer and Edge. Ford’s Ecoboost engines will deliver good fuel economy without forcing truck buyers to make the decision between a gas-guzzling V8 and a higher mileage V6 that struggles to complete the tasks truckers need done.
