The updated 2011 Chrysler Town & Country (shown here) and Dodge Grand Caravan could be delayed due to a strike at a parts supplier. The workers at Integram Seating in Windsor, Ont., the company contracted to build the seats for the new Grand Caravan and Town & Country, have voted to strike if their demands for higher wages aren’t met. If the workers do strike and an agreement isn’t worked out with Integram, the launch of the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan and 2011 Chrysler Town & Country will be delayed, according to Autoblog.
The strike is apparently due to pay at the seat manufacturer. Integram Seating’s workers have not had a pay raise in four years and the average pay rate at the plant is $24.32 per hour, which comes out to approximately $50,000 per year. The current labor contract expires on Nov. 7, and if a new contract has not been agreed upon by that date, the workers will strike.
With no seats for the updated 2011 minivans, Chrysler may have to delay production. If Chrysler can’t build 2011 Town & Country and Grand Caravan minivans, it would mean that buyers looking for a new minivan will have to either buy a leftover 2010 model or spend their money on a different brand. The Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country are two of the standout stars of Chrysler’s lineup, so any disruption in sales could be very bad for Chrysler and its dealers.
