The 2012 Nissan GT-R will get its first significant upgrade for the 2012 model year. The new 2012 Nissan GT-R will get an engine upgrade to 530-hp, up from 485 in this year’s model.
The 2012 Nissan GT-R will also get updates to its interior and exterior, but don’t expect any serious aesthetic changes. The new GT-R will get larger bumper and grill openings, a new rear bumper and fins on the front bumper. Combined, the exterior modifications are designed to reduce the GT-R’s center of gravity and reduce its coefficient of drag from 0.27 to 0.26, which means it will cut through the air better.
For 2012, the Nissan GT-R will also get a new strut supporting bar, bigger brake rotors and lighter weight wheels, all of which should help the GT-R to shave some time off of its lap times.
The new 2012 Nissan GT-R will also get better gas mileage, due to a combination of the better aerodynamics and the upgraded engine. Under Japan’s gas mileage standards, the new GT-R will get 20-mpg, up from 19.5 on last year’s model.
The upgraded GT-R is going on sale in Japan on November 15. Nissan says that the new GT-R will come to the United States after February 2011, according to Autoweek, but did not give a concrete date.
