The 2012 Ford Focus made its production debut yesterday at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. This is the first time a production-spec 2012 Focus has been seen by the public, though pre-production models have been shown off by Ford in the past.
The 2012 Ford Focus will go on sale in the United States in early 2011. Both the four-door sedan and five-door wagon will go on sale in the beginning of next year, and a high-performance Focus ST model (shown above) will join the lineup in 2012. This will be the first time the Focus ST is available worldwide, in keeping with Ford’s plans to move away from building different models for specific regions of the globe.
When the 2012 Ford Focus goes on sale, Ford will be the first full-line automaker to have a sedan and five-door wagon in both the B-car (Focus) and C-car (Fiesta) segments. Ford says that the popularity of the five-door Fiesta shows that buyers in America, who historically prefer sedans to wagons, are starting to warm up to the practicality of a five-door.
The highway fuel economy for the 2012 Ford Focus is expected to top 40-mpg when equipped with an automatic transmission. Ford says that 90 percent of all cars in the Focus’ segment are sold with automatic transmissions.
Ford has not yet announced pricing for the 2012 Focus, but will launch a website next month that allows users to build and price the new model.
