BMW has revealed the 2011 BMW X3 at the Paris Motor Show. The new X3 is very similar in appearance to the first-generation model, which has been on sale in the United States since 2004. BMW says that the new X3 will be built in BMW’s Spartanburg, N.C. production plant.
The new 2011 BMW X3 will have two different engine choices available. The base mode X3 xDrive28i will come with a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that will make 240-hp and 230-lb-ft of torque.
The more exciting X3 model will use BMW’s 3.0-liter turbocharged engine, which will make 300-hp and 300-lb-ft of torque. BMW says that the turbo-six engine will have peak torque available from 1,200 rpm to 5,000 rpm, giving the 2011 X3 xDrive35i excellent acceleration. BMW says that the X3 will accelerate from 0-60 in just 5.5 seconds with the turbocharged engine.
The 2011 BMW X3 will be the first BMW SUV to use electric power steering, according to Autoblog.
The BMW X3 competes with the Infiniti EX35 and the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class in the small luxury SUV segment. BMW’s redesign of the X3 will get it closer to the Infiniti and Mercedes in terms of looks, so if you’re shopping for one of these SUVs, your decision just got a little bit harder.
