Infiniti has released pictures of its new high-performance convertible, the IPL G37. The Infiniti Performance Line version of the G37 convertible has a more aggressive look than the standard drop-top G37 and performance upgrades to match.
In addition to the styling changes on the IPL G37 convertible, the suspension, chassis and engine will all be upgraded. The IPL G37 coupe will have 348-hp, according to Autoblog, so expect the convertible version to match that.
The Infiniti G37 has been the go-to car if you’re looking for a sporty luxury coupe or sedan for a while, starting with the G35 in 2003. An even sportier trim line isn’t surprising, especially with Lexus pushing its own performance division with the IS-F. With 325-horsepower available in the standard convertible G37, the bump to 348 (or likely around five-hp less, since the standard G37 convertible is five short of the coupe) won’t make a huge difference in speed. Infiniti is also planning to upgrade the suspension on the IPL G37 convertible so that handling is improved over the standard model.
The Infiniti IPL G37 isn’t in the same performance category as the BMW M3 or the Mercedes C65 AMG, and while pricing on the IPL G37 convertible hasn’t been announced, it almost definitely won’t be priced along with the $58,000 Mercedes. Buyers looking for a sportier, more aggressive midsize luxury car who won’t want to break the bank should be very happy with the new Infiniti.
