The 2011 Dodge Durango SUV has finally been officially revealed. The all-new, full-size SUV first made an appearance with an unofficial Twitter post in July. Next, teaser shots of the new Durango were released by Dodge in August that showed details of the new full-size crossover, but not the full vehicle. Now, Dodge has revealed what the entire 2011 Durango will look like.
The 2011 Durango looks a lot like the Dodge Ram trucks, except smaller, so if you’re a fan of Dodge’s pickup styling, the Durango won’t disappoint. The Durango also looks similar to the recently released 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and even though the Dodge is aimed at on-road-only drivers and the grand Cherokee at off-roaders, the SUVs will probably compete for the same buyers pretty frequently.
The new Dodge Durango will be available with the choice between a V6 or V8 engine. Chrysler’s 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine with fuel-economy boosting cylinder deactivation will be available in the Durango. The base engine will be the new Pentastar V6, which will have a 6,200 lb towing capacity. The Hemi V8 Durango will be able to tow 7,400 lbs.
Dodge says that the Durango’s unibody style construction will give it handling good enough to please driving enthusiasts. That’s not normally the target market for SUVs, but if you’re looking for an SUV with three rows that can also tow a boat and is also fun to drive, the Durango might be your only choice.
