The 2012 Dodge Durango has been revealed through Twitter. The new Durango will follow the 2011 Ford Explorer’s lead and will switch from a traditional truck-based SUV to a more street-oriented crossover. Twitter user @AsianMartin revealed a picture of the new crossover yesterday.
According to Autoblog and the Twitter poster, the new Dodge crossover could be named the Magnum. Either way, Dodge will be replacing both the large wagon and the mid-size SUV with one crossover that will essentially do the job of both. The new crossover won’t have the style of the Magnum, but the wagon has been around for a while and really needs to be updated or put out to pasture.
The 2012 Durango crossover’s styling is nothing unexpected, and is pretty much following Dodge’s corporate look and the current trends in SUVs to blend in with the other soccer moms, but it is a good-looking SUV. Dodge may have finally found an SUV that can compete with the Ford Explorer and corporate cousin Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Dodge’s switch to a crossover-style SUV from a truck-based one for the 2012 Durango will mean better road handling and ride quality for drivers and most likely better gas mileage too. Autoblog expects the 2012 Durango to be available with the choice between Chrysler’s new 3.6-liter V6 engine and the well-known 5.7-liter Hemi V8.

With this move, Ford might be giving up a lot of male buyers to the newly redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee and the recently revealed 2012 Dodge Durango. […]
