Lexus has discovered a major problem with the engines found on several of its vehicles that could cause the engine to stall while driving. Just a few days ago, Lexus announced a recall on the HS 250h, which leaks an excessive amount of gas when involved in a rear-end collision. Now the company is considering another recall to fix the engines of the Lexus IS, GS and LS models.
Lexus has not announced a recall officially, and the actual cause of the problem is still unknown. Left Lane News cites The Japanese news agencies Nikkei and Kyodo claiming that the engine stalling problem will necessitate the recall of “tens of thousands” of Lexus LS460 large luxury sedans. The Wall Street Journal (also via Left Lane) claims that a Toyota spokeswoman said the Lexus IS, GS and LS models would be included in the recall.
This recall is not as serious as the unintended acceleration problems Toyota struggled with earlier this year. A car’s engine stalling could get you in serious trouble if you’re traveling on the highway though, so any owners of Lexus cars affected by the stalling problem should contact a dealer as soon as the recall is made official.
Another recall for Toyota is embarrassing for the company. The good news for the consumer is that the embarrassment might cause Lexus to offer some very nice incentives in the coming months, like Toyota did with it’s first ever 0% financing offer after the unintended acceleration recalls.
