The Chrysler PT Cruiser has been discontinued. After 10 years on the market, Chrysler has pulled the plug on the retro wagon. The PT Cruiser was popular when it first launched in 2000, but sales have slowly declined over time. The last PT Cruiser will be built on July 9, according to the Detroit Free Press.
When the PT Cruiser debuted in the 2000 model year, it was a symbol for everything that was right with Chrysler. The PT Cruiser had a distinct retro style, coupled good gas mileage with a wagon’s functionality and the rabid fan base created a huge aftermarket.
Now though, the PT Cruiser is a symbol for everything that is wrong with Chrysler. The car went 10 years without any significant changes. The only updates to the PT Cruiser were the addition of a convertible body style and a turbocharged engine. If Chrysler had updated the PT Cruiser, it would have almost definitely retained its popularity.
Chrysler is currently offering 0% financing for 60 months on the PT Cruiser. With PT Cruiser sales so slow, you should be able to negotiate a price break with your dealer in addition to the incentives Chrysler is offering. If you keep an eye on local dealer inventory and notice some PT Cruisers sitting on the lot over the next few months, you could score a great deal by taking one off their hands.
