Hyundai has announced that the new Sonata 2.0t with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will go from 0-60 in just 6.5 seconds. That’s quicker than the 6.8 seconds it took Motor Trend to go 0-60 in the Hyundai Genesis 2.0t Track. The Sonata is a mid-size four-door sedan though, so most buyers are looking for more than just exciting acceleration. Luckily for them, the Sonata 2.0t will also get 34-mpg highway and 22-mpg city.
The 2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0t’s four-cylinder engine will be good for 274-hp, according to Motor Authority. That’s more than the Toyota Camry V6‘s 268-hp and the Honda Accord V6‘s 271-hp. The fact that Sonata reaches those performance numbers without a heavier V6 engine plays a major part in the car’s fuel economy. The Camry V6 gets 20-mpg city and 29-mpg highway. The Accord V6 gets a similar 19 city and 29 highway.
The Sonata also comes with Hyundai’s 10-year, 100,000 mile warranty, which handily beats the identical three-year, 36,000 mile warranty on the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. The Sonata will also come with the Hyundai Assurance program, through which Hyundai will buy back your car or make your payments for a short time if you experience a financial hardship like the loss of a job.
