The 2011 Honda CR-Z sporty hybrid hatchback will cost $19,200 when it goes on sale in August. The CR-Z hybrid is a sporty hatchback that traces its roots back to the Honda CRX from the 1980s. Honda is focusing more on performance than gas mileage. The two-seat CR-Z gets just 31-mpg city and 37-mpg highway, which is good, but not on the same level as most hybrids. The CR-Z’s price does not include a $750 destination charge.
The CR-Z will use a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine and an electric motor to make 122-hp and 128 lb-ft of torque. The CR-Z will be unique among the hybrids currently on sale for two reasons. The first is the manual transmission, which should make the CR-Z fun to drive. The other unique feature is the three-mode drive system, which allows drivers to choose between three settings that blend the gas engine and electric motor for fuel efficiency, performance or a mix of the two.
As previously mentioned, CR-Z base model starts at $19,200. CR-Z EX models will cost $20,760, according to Left Lane News. The top-of-the-line CR-Z with navigation and a CVT transmission will be $23,210. Honda’s Insight hybrid, which has four doors and seats five people, starts at just $19,800. With the Insight only $500 more expensive than the CR-Z, it’s hard to imagine many buyers choosing the two-seat CR-Z.
