Chrysler has officially revealed what the all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee will look like. Pictures of the Grand Cherokee were released on Wednesday, and the SUV looks more high-end than ever. The new Grand Cherokee has more hard edges than the outgoing model, and aside from the trademark seven slot grill, is hardly recognizable as the heir of the very rounded bubble-butt Grand Cherokee sold in the late 1990s.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been popular thanks to its off-road capabilities and ride height, and also the comfortable, luxurious interior. Chrysler released a picture of the new Grand Cherokee’s interior, and it certainly looks comfy. Chrysler has struggled since its bankruptcy, and the 2011 Grand Cherokee SUV is one of the new vehicles that the company’s success is dependent on. So for Chrysler’s sake, let’s hope gasoline doesn’t hit $4 a gallon again and SUV sales stay strong.
The 2011 Grand Cherokee might be a disappointment to hardcore off-roaders thanks to its independent front and rear axles, which typically limit off-road performance, but most buyers will appreciate the on-road ride and handling improvements. Hardcore off-roaders and Jeep fanatics may complain, but they still have the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon available if they’re looking to tackle MOAB.
The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee will start at $32,995 for a four-wheel drive model and $30,995 for a two-wheel drive model. Chrysler’s new 3.6-liter V6 engine will be standard, which will make 290-hp. The Hemi V8 will be optional, according to Autoweek.
