The 2011 Ford Fiesta will get 40 mpg on the highway and 29 mpg in the city. The brand new Fiesta was officially tested by the Environmental Protection Agency recently and received a 40 mpg rating with an automatic transmission. Fiestas equipped with the five-speed manual transmission will get 23 mpg city and 37 mpg highway.
“The new Fiesta is yet another car in Ford’s lineup that delivers class-leading fuel economy,” Barb Samardzich, Ford’s vice president of global powertrain engineering, said to USA Today.
Ford’s other fuel economy star is the Fusion Hybrid, which has a rating of 41 mpg city and 36 mpg highway.
The 2011 Ford Fiesta will cost $13,995 and will go on sale this summer. All Fiesta models will come with a 1.6 liter four-cylinder engine that makes 120 horsepower.
The 2011 Ford Fiesta will beat the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris, which will be its main competition, in fuel economy. The only other car on sale in America right now that gets gas mileage over 40 mpg that isn’t either a hybrid or diesel-powered is the smart fortwo. The Audi A3 diesel, Ford Fusion Hybrid, Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Insight, Mercury Milan Hybrid, Toyota Prius, Volkswagen Golf Tdi diesel and Volkswagen Jetta Tdi diesel also have EPA ratings of more than 40 mpg.
