Audi has announced an even higher performance version of its R8 supercar. The Audi R8 GT will have 560-hp and weigh 220 pounds less than the standard R8. The R8 GT will use carbon fiber instead of aluminum in many places to cut weight, according to Autoblog.
Audi‘s engineers went over the car with a fine-tooth comb in order to save as much weight as possible. In addition to the extensive use of carbon fiber, the R8 GT will have a thinner windshield than the standard Audi R8 and will use polycarbonate for the rear windows instead of glass.
The Audi R8 GT’s performance will be astounding. The R8 GT will use a tuned version of the R8’s 5.2-liter V10 engine that will make 560-hp. With an extra 35-hp and 220 fewer pounds, the R8 GT will leave the standard R8 in the dust. Audi claims the R8 GT will do 0-62-mph in 3.6 seconds and will have a top speed of 198.8 mph.
The Audi R8 GT will be an exclusive, low volume special edition. Only 333 GT models will be made, and the MSRP is expected to be €193,000, or $256,000 USD.
