Honda has announced that it will be recalling 167,225 Acura TSX models from the 2004 to 2008 model years. The company is recalling the cars because a power steering hose in the Acura TSX could crack and cause a fire under the hood of the car.
Honda says that extended periods of high temperatures under the hood of the TSX could cause a power steering hose to crack. If that hose fails, it could leak oil onto the exhaust manifold and cause a fire, according to Business First of Columbus.
Honda plans to recall any affected cars and replace any hose that could cause an under-hood fire in an Acura TSX, but won’t launch the recall until late next month. So if you’re planning a road trip across the south in the next few weeks, you might want to contact a local Acura dealer and have your power steering hose checked out.
The NHTSA does not have any information available on incidents of cracked power steering hoses actually causing fires in the Acura TSX, so the recall may be purely preventative.
