Chrysler has released teaser pics of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. The Grand Cherokee will be all new for 2011, and it is still not clear whether the high performance SRT8 model will be available in the coming years. Chrysler’s decision to release sketches of the potential muscle-SUV bodes well for performance-hungry family men and women.
The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 will probably be available in late 2011, according to Motor Authority. The SRT8 will be powered by a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 with power somewhere in the 500-hp and 500-ft-lb of torque range. The engine, called the 392 HEMI, will be available in the 2011 Dodge Challenger and 2011 Dodge Charger before it makes its way into the Grand Cherokee. The 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 will also have a unique, more aggressive look and a lower sport-tuned suspension.
The Grand Cherokee SRT8 is almost tailor-made for people with a snooty, Prius driving neighbor they hate. He made a comment about your wife’s Equinox being bad for the environment? Leave a strip of rubber in front of his driveway. No, make that four strips, thanks to the AWD system. Plus, it’s a Grand Cherokee, so you can fit five people comfortably and carry a bicycle for each one.
